Public raise concerns 15 days after MTN's ID for MoMo withdrawal

It’s been 15 days since the introduction of the Identification Card for MTN Mobile Money withdrawal with the aim of curbing fraud.
As a result of the initiative, all MoMo agents are required to select the ID type and enter the ID card number presented by the customer before the transaction can be completed.
Without a valid ID card, MoMo transactions cannot be processed. Customers from April 2, 2021, presents either ID cards, Ghana Card, Driving License, Passport, Voter's ID, and NHIS for withdrawals yet the initiative has been greeted with mixed reactions from both customers and merchants.
Some of the merchants commended the Mobile Telecommunication Network during an engagement with Soireenews for the move but suggested that there are measures to be strengthened. One agent bemoaned how MTN blocked his MoMo SIM for failing to use the right ID. According to him, MTN must programme the system such that fake IDs will be automatically rejected. He disclosed that punishing merchants for the mistakes of customers cannot be accepted.
A section of customers revealed to Soireenews how the initiative will help curb mobile money fraud thereby acknowledging the efforts of MTN.
Soireenews Bono Regional Correspondent Nana Ama Asiedu engaged the Senior Manager, Compliance Risk and Anti-,Money Laundering of MTN on their observations after 15 days of implementation of ID for MoMo withdrawal.
Mr Godwin Tamakloe said even though the exercise has been facing numerous challenges, it has been successful.
He disclosed that accounts of vendors who defaulted their directive have been blocked and will be reactivated after a month period.
Mr Tamakloe however, warned vendors to take directives from MTN as far as the ID for withdrawal is a concern as the company will not hesitate in banning them forever from MoMo operation.
