The Kumasi Railway lands are reportedly being sold to traders, the Public Relations Officer of Foss sellers Association, Mr Michael Amponsah has disclosed.

According to him, the lands are being offered for an amount of GHC580 by the former Railways Area Manager, Mr William Donkor who retired from Office last Friday, April 30, 2021, although the Railway Regional Office have denied any possible knowledge about the allegations.

Speaking to Foss Sellers Association PRO, Mr Michael Amponsah narrated that he and a few Foss sellers were hinted at the sale of portions of the railways land by the Shoemakers Association who are occupying the grounds; a place denied for trade by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly against the second-hand clothing sellers.

Mr Michael expressed how disappointed he was to observe the very place they were deprived of been offered for sale to some traders by the Railway Authorities hence his interest to enquire the truth from the new Railway Area Manager, who dismissed his involvement in the ongoing illegal acts.

“We went to the Area Manager to enquire how true the matter is and he denied his involvement in the selling of railways lands to traders.

“Together with the new area manager, we went to inspect the land and later confirmed our report after seeing markings of allotment,” he said.

According to reports gathered on the grounds, Mr William Donkor has sold the portions to 174 traders with each paying an amount of GHC580. Soireenews effort to contact him on phone to seek his side of the story proved futile.

Meanwhile, the Foss Sellers PRO and other concerned traders expressed they have still not been given a place to trade by KMA and every location they are being transferred to have been unsuccessful. He has therefore pleaded to authorities to come to their aid and provide them with a suitable place.

“Our plea is simple, authorities must provide is a place to sit because we are suffering. To allocate land for traders and later evacuate us to sell it back to us is unfortunate.

"Foss people are suffering, there is no space at Abinkyi and our appeal to the Regional Minister is to help find a place for trade.”
