Tunisian leader set to win controversial referendum

In a vote on a new constitution that strengthens Kais Saied's hold on power, Saied's supporters have been celebrating what appears to be a success.

After an exit poll revealed that more than 90% of voters supported the president's proposals, hundreds protested in Tunis.

Though just around one in four voters participated, turnout was low.

Because they believed Mr. Saied was leading Tunisia back towards dictatorship, the opposition organized a boycott.

Reporters claim that since suspending the legislature and toppling the government a year ago, the president's popularity has appeared to be declining.
