220 GHANAIANS DEPARTED FROM UKRAINE SO FAR

The Ministry for Foreign affairs and Regional Integration, Honourable Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has revealed that over 220 stranded Ghanaians in Ukraine have existed from Ukraine as of today.

The Minister for Foreign affairs and Regional Integration, Honourable Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has revealed that over 220 stranded Ghanaians in Ukraine have existed from Ukraine as of today.

According to her, flight arrangements have been made to assist those who are willing to come and they should be in Ghana very soon.

Announcing some diplomatic countries where compatriots from Ukraine can get shelter before conveying them to Ghana due to the escalating war between Russia and Ukraine, the Minister said 25 persons will be in Slovakia from Prague, 25 arrived at Hungary just this Morning who is currently at Pentecostal church in Budapest, 85 of them are being assisted by our embassy in Moscow to cross the border town of Suni into Russia although crossing the border is very difficult currently but the embassy will do it best for the compatriots to be evacuated to Ghana.

The numbers are expected to increase due to the team spirit of the Ghanaian students and others through their communication on WhatsApp groups, sharing numbers of known personalities among themselves who can assist them leave Ukraine, adding that the Government has also put in place the necessary packages to facilitate transportation, accommodation, feeding medical support, flight and many others to ease
 the burden on them, she said.

Speaking at the Minister's press briefing today 27th Feb. 2022 on the security situation in Ukraine and the safety of Ghanaian Nationals in Ukraine, Honourable Shirley Ayorkor emphasized that the students will be received by Officials of our diplomatic missions and the Officials of Students Union at Romania, Slovakia and the Cheque Republic.

Indicating the breakdown of students who have existed Ukraine, 132 have arrived at Bucarest in which tickets are being prepared by Officer on the ground for some of them to leave tomorrow to Accra,  at the moment, 24 of them are at the airport waiting for their flight,  60 of them are going through border formalities to get them to Romania and some are being processed at the holding area, the minister noted.
