Andy Robertson has voiced his discontent at the busy schedule of football matches for players in the current season and has called on authorities to make significant changes for their safety.

Liverpool have been victims of injuries due to the busy load of fixtures, already having Van Dijk, Gomez, Thiago, Naby Keita, Chamberlain and Shaqiri on the sidelines. Trent Arnold Alexander and James Milner are also out with calf and hamstring injuries respectively giving Klopp lesser alternatives especially in the defensive department of his team.

Klopp has called for five substitutions but seems to be lacking support from fellow managers and Robertson believes the rise in bench numbers would help players and lessen dangers, talkSPORTS reports.

“The schedule is hectic,” he said ahead of the Champions League visit of Ajax.

“There is no secret in that because of Covid we had to make up time and the schedule can't change because we need to get all these games in different competitions in.

“Up in Scotland they have five substitutions now and speaking to some of those boys they think it makes a massive difference because it is so hectic.

“I just believe we should be trying to help the players. I don't know the exact number but there are a lot more muscle injuries happening this season.

“It seems every game I watch or every game I'm involved in someone is going off injured with something.”

Liverpool heads into eight games in 30 days in the month of December starting from Tuesday’s clash with Ajax at Anfield. A win fo the Reds will qualify them into the knockout stage of the competition and according to Robertson, it’s a must-win game if Liverpool wants to make it to the next round.

“We are playing one of the European giants tomorrow night. We know we are in for a tough task, but we know what is at stake. We want to go far in this competition and we need to get through the group stage first and foremost
