Atletico Madrid came from two goal down to draw with Maurizio Sarri’s Juventus at the Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday night.

A first half full of coiled potential still gave little hint of the electric second half. Cuadrado's wonderful curled strike gave the Italian side edge and seemed beyond Atletico's grasp after Matuidi nodded them two up. Simeone's side struck back through Savić's header before substitute Herrera repeated the trick in the 90th minute.

The game got underway by Atletico Madrid.

The first chance fell the way of Los Rojiblancos. Thomas and Saúl Ñíguez combined before finding Trippier on the right hand edge of the penalty area with a precise long ball. The full-back attempted to find João Félix with a low first-time cross but his touch was inaccurate.

Ronaldo got his first touch on the ball and the whistles were absolutely deafening in the Stadium.

João Félix almost put the home side ahead in the 10-minute. Diego Costa found the Portuguese after pinching possession inside his own half and instantly launched a counterattack with a clever first-time pass into the path of his teammate. João Félix surged at the backline, darted slightly to the right of the penalty area and thudded a low shot at Szczęsny's far post, which the keeper palmed behind.

Ronaldo had an effort on goal 12 minutes later. The former Madrid player smashed in a typically forceful, swerving low shot from well outside the penalty area down the left. Oblak was present at the spot to save well. Atlético got plenty of joy out wide but their crossing was a bit wayward.

Both teams tried attacking but were being stopped by very organized defenses with chances proving hard to come by.

Juventus initiated a counter in the 40-minute after both sides seem to have balanced play. Higuaín burst down the left and found Matuidi through the centre, who shifted possession on to Ronaldo down the right but cross was cleared behind.

Ronaldo had an attempt on goal, the best chance yet. Ronaldo did surprisingly a little with a free header at goal at the far post. The cross from the right came in following a Juventus clearance but he puts it straight into Oblak's arms.

João Félix missed the target again five minutes to end the first half. The youngster called for a quick pass from Renan Lodi down the left, took a touch to push the ball inwards and fired a rising shot beyond the far angle from distance. It was indeed a sign of frustration in a tight first half.

The second half started with a sensational strike in style for Juventus.

It all begun with a visionary pass from Bonucci, winning the ball from Diego Costa and sending a superb pass from deep inside one half to near the corner of the other, allowing Higuaín to motor down the left on the counterattack. The striker took a touch, looked up and found Cuadrado on the left hand edge of the penalty area with a low pass. The Colombian curled a wonderful strike straight into the far corner.

Atlético missed the target through Giménez minutes after the first goal. The chance was so close to an equalizer. Trippier found space down the right and located Koke inside the penalty area with a precise low pass. The Spaniard clipped a cross into the path of Giménez but the defender's close-range finish soared over the bar.

Matuidi doubled the visitors lead in the 65-minute. Juventus initiated another clinical counterattack featuring Ronaldo. He short-staffed the defence down the left and found Alex Sandro approaching the corner flag. The Brazil full-back curled a perfect cross onto the head of the unmarked Matuidi, who noded past the helpless Oblak at his near post.

Savić perfectly responded to that second goal in the 70-minute from another close-range header. Koke's free-kick from distance, hit from a central position, was deep to the far post on the left, where Giménez nodded the ball back into the path of Savić right in front of goal to burry the chance.

Herrera came on for Partey, while Vitolo replaces Lodi. Former Arsenal player, Aaron Ramsey came on for Pjanic.

Hereira levelled the scores in the 90-minute through a header from a Trippier cross.

Ronaldo missed a crucial chance in additional time. The Portugal captain dragged his shot wide of the far post following a final sprint through the centre, slightly to the left of the penalty area to end the game.
