The fishing ban will be extended by the Ministry of Fisheries.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development (MoFAD) said it's considering extending the one-month annual ban of fishing activity at sea.

According to the Ministry, extending the Closed Season from one to two months would assure full recovery of the country's "over-exploited and depleted" fish resource while also allowing for year-round fishing to support economic growth.

Mrs. Mavis Hawa Koomson, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, revealed this during a press conference in Accra on Monday, saying the Ministry was pleased with the results of the yearly closed season thus far.

She added data from the Ministry and stakeholders from the 2021 closed season showed the approach was working.
