Techiman: Ayorya groundnut farmers receive oil and paste factory from UNDP

The  President for the Ayorya Women Groundnut Farmers Association Madam  Hana Akyima, commended the leadership of UNDP assuring that the said Factory is coming at the right time when the farmers needed it the most.

Ayorya Groundnut Farmers Association in the Techiman Municipality of the Bono East has received a complete Groundnut Paste and Oil Factory from the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Speaking at the handing ceremony, Dr King David Amoah from Farmers Organization Network Ghana (FONG) also Global Environmental Facility (GEF) of the UNDP Board Chairman challenged the Association to make good used of the facility to ensure the money invested in it does not go waste.

Dr King David Amoah said GEF small scale projects have records of sustainability and that all projects been provided under their watch are still working hence the need for the Ayorya Groundnut Oil and Paste Processing to be maintained in good shape to add up to GEF good records.

On her part, Nana Serwaa Kruwaa, Techiman Buoyam Krontihemaa who is also the P.R.O for UNDP said the project is coming to change the Livelihood of women and aid them economically.

She added that the project will "help our Youth who are into Armed robbery due to unemployment and help eliminate robbery."

She however advised all to take advantage of the factory whiles urging the farmers to use organic methods in growing their groundnuts so that the paste will be valued in the World Market.

"Our pastes have been severally rejected in the World Market because they said it is full of aflatoxin So I challenged farmers not to used agrochemicals in farming in order to make their farm products aflatoxin free”, she stressed.

 She told that the facility will help reduce the financial burden on them in producing groundnuts pastes.

“The Women in Town take GHS 20 for cracking one bag of Groundnut, but We are going to take GHS 10 for a bag of Groundnut with the cracking machine," she accounted.

" I think we are going to get more market, if we cracked 10 bags of Groundnuts we will get GHS 100 if we used GHS 20 to buy power, the remaining amount is going to be saved in the name of the Ayorya women Association.

"This she said will enable their members to be financially stable whiles producing the paste in larger quantities."
