A teacher has been sentenced to 5 years of inprisonment for stealing a cash amount of GH¢ 69,209.34 belonging to the GCB - Wenchi branch in the Bono Region.

A teacher has been sentenced to 5 years of inprisonment for stealing a cash amount of GH¢ 69,209.34 belonging to the GCB - Wenchi branch in the Bono Region.

The convict, Sampson Twi, aged 56, was charged with stealing.

The facts of the case as presented by Inspector Pamporo Kunsoyiri told the Wenchi Magistrate Court Presided over by a relieving Magistrate, His Lordship Kojo Frimpong Manso that the convict is a teacher at Boku Methodist Junior High School (JHS) in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region.

The prosecutor said the convict applied for an overdraft of GH¢ 600.00 from the GCB  -  Wenchi branch and was granted, not knowing that the convict had the intention to steal from the bank.

The prosecutor further explained that the convict took advantage of the weak system of the electronic money system and on 1st December 2021 he withdraw GH¢ 9000,2nd December 2021 he also takes gh¢ 10,000  while on December 8, 2021, he withdraw GH¢ 20,209.34 all summing up to GH¢ 69,209.34  from the bank.

After the bank detected his deal reported him to the police, the prosecutor said.

The complainant in the case is the GCB branch Manager at Wenchi, Osei Boateng

The investigation uncovered 1 brand new motorbike with registration number M - 21 - BA - 4398 and two brand new android phones and an amount of GH¢ 46,660 from his phone.

Sampson Twi pleaded guilty to his counts and was sentenced to 60 months (5) years in prison for hard labor.

The court ordered that the motorbike and the phones be sold to clear the debt
