Sunyani Airport  First Phase Ready For Commissioning - Minister of Transport.

The Transport Minister Honourable Kwaku Ofori Asiamah has said, if all things being equal, the Sunyani Airport will be ready for reopening for aircraft after its closure to freights in 2015 for renovations.

The Minister disclosed this after he led a team of officials comprising Minister for Employment and Labour Relations Honourable Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe Abronye, Member Parliament for Sunyani East Honourable Akwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, Authorities of Ghana Airports Company Limited, Ghana Civil Aviation Authority and other regulatory bodies on a final inspection tour of the phase one of the Sunyani Airport on Tuesday.

The Minister after the inspection of the renovation works at the airport expressed his satisfaction with the work done and added that phase two, which consists of raising the central tower from two-story to three-story, separating the departure hall from the arrival hall, providing drainage, and proper sewage system and adding bigger septic tanks is next in line to be constructed.

Honorable Ofori Asiamah averred that the project when opened would expand the economic aspirations of the country, especially for those in the three regions of Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo because it would reduce the travel time of passengers which is in line with the vision of the Government to develop and promote domestic airline services.

The Managing Director for the Ghana Airports Company Limited, Pamela Djamson-Tettey pegged the progress of work on the facility at 99.99 percent which she hopes to start receiving aircraft any moment from now pending approval from the regulatory bodies.
