Galamsey

The Omanhene of Atti-Morkwa Traditional council in Twifo Ati-Morkwa District, in the Central Region, Oseadeeyo Kwasi Kenin (IV), has stated emphatically that, no one should blame Galamsey activity on chiefs.

Speaking to Central Regional Soireenews correspondent, Abusuapanyin Kojo Ahinful, the Omanhene noted that government gives concessions to mining companies without consulting Traditional leaders, not even divisional chiefs, which creates unawareness of Galamsey activities.

He explained that concession owners have severally refused to appear before him on issues affecting the community for the reason that their concession certificate given to them by the government is their security.

Oseadeeyo Kwasi Kenin (IV) noted the only way the government can fight Galamsey in this country is to collaborate with the Chiefs and give them back their powers.

Some residents in Twifo Praso in the Twifo Ati-Morkwa District also recount a short background of the Pra River revealing that the current state is worse than the previous.
