Sudan food aid dependent on ceasefire status - UN

According to the UN's World Food Programme, if the most recent ceasefire holds will determine whether supplies of life-saving relief can restart in Sudan.

A seven-day ceasefire between the warring military factions will begin on Thursday, although earlier ceasefires have frequently been broken.

Leni Kinzli, a WFP spokesperson, told the BBC that the organization would give priority to distributing emergency food to both people who were already refugees and those who had recently been displaced by conflict.

She claimed that the theft of thousands of tonnes of food from storage facilities in the western Darfur region will hinder operations.
