Nigeria launches probe into popular noodles brand

The accused brand was not registered for sale in Nigeria, according to the Nigerian agency, which also noted that the ports authorities were on high alert to prevent its entry.

Nigeria launches probe into popular noodles brand

According to Nigeria's food and drug control agency (Nafdac), "swift action" is being taken to look into claims that a popular brand of noodles contains a chemical linked to an elevated risk of cancer.

In a statement, the organization stated that it was "randomly sampling and analyzing Indomie noodles, including the seasoning, for the presence of ethylene oxide."

It declared that it was expanding the inquiry to include further instant noodle brands available in Nigeria.

The "special chicken flavour" noodle brands were recalled last week in Malaysia and Taiwan after the chemical was found in some samples, according to Nafdac.

However, Indofoods, the giant Indonesian food company that manufactures Indomie, has since defended the security of its goods.

The statement read, "We assure the public that the products will be thoroughly investigated, both at the factory and market levels, and that we will share our findings."
