Stop The Lies; You Cannot Break Mahama Track Record, And Achievements In Governance–Bagbin Jabs Akufo-Addo And NPP
KINTAMPO SOUTH Constituency Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Bagbin Mpondan has strong a word of warning to the members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to stop their continuous lies of laying claim to the projects that former President John Mahama Dramani government has done for mother Ghana.
According to the young outspoken politician, it is a high time the NPP people including their President to stop lies because the NPP under Akufo-Addo break the track record and projects achievements of the former President Dramani Mahama.
Outlining some achievements of former President Dramani Mahama. as Vice President and head of Economic Management Team (EMT) from 2009 to 2012, he stated that H.E John Dramani Mahama as vice President and Head of the Economic Management team from 2009 to 2012 stabilised the Ghanaian Economy through the following measures.
The NDC man noted the former President
sustained reduction in inflation from a high of 18.1% in December 2008 to a low inflation of 9.38% by October 2010 through a proper fiscal and monetary policy even though he was not an Economist.
Mr  Mpondan stressed that JM as head of the EMT supervised an improved gross international reserves. The Gross International Reserves in January 2009 was US$2bn covering 1.8 months of imports and by October 2010 our Gross international reserves had increased to US$3.5bn covering 3 months of import cover through the handi work of JM.
He added that JM stabilised the Ghana cedi through a combination of prudent fiscal and monetary policy and by the end of 2012 the exchange rate was $1 to Ghc 1.9
He said JM ensured strong Macroeconomic Performance. By September 2010 the economy expanded by 5.9% as against the GDP target of 6.5%
According to Mr  Mpondan,  JM as head of the EMT ensured the smooth implementation of the Single Spine Salary structure that improved significantly the living standards of workers.
He asserted JM as head of EMT ensured the Integration of Revenue Agencies which translated into greater efficiency in revenue collection. Today we have Ghana Revenue Authority which brings together the operations of VAT, CEPS and IRS.
He said JM as head of EMT ensured Domestic Financing of projects and did not borrow more than Constitutionally required from the central Bank.
He mentioned that JM as head of EMT spearheaded Ghana's efforts in the Convergence Criteria of the West Africa Monetary Union
He explained that JM as head of EMT cleared the Tema Oil Refinary Debt that had been accrued by the Kuffour led NPP administration after they had misapplied and misappropriated the TOR Debt Recovery Levy.
Mr  Mpondan said JM as head of EMT boasted the confidence in the Ghanaian economy to attract Foreign Direct Investments as evidenced in the reports of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) from 2009 to 2012.
"JM as head of the EMT ensured the growth in the economy that paved way for government to embark on the following programmes, Free School Uniforms, Increase in Capitation  Grants, Free Exercise Books, Expansion of School Feeding Programme, Full Tuition Fees for Teachers pursuing further studies through Distance learning ,Replacing Schools Under trees, Revamping Collapsed Science Resource Centers, Savings on the Reduction of Appointments etc.
"Remember JM worked diligently to achieve all this even though he was not an Economist and never went round touting the credentials of the members of his Economic Management team. Today the Economist who has been made the head of the EMT has collapsed the once robust economy under JM as head of EMT and for the first time in the 4th Republic Ghana has defaulted on our debt obligations.
"The current head of the EMT has superintended over too much borrowing to the extent that Ghana cannot Pay our Domestic and international loans with interest and has further aggravated the woes of Ghanaians with a deadly Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) that is already suffocating our pensioners.
"These are just few of the achievements of JM as the head of the EMT under late President Mills.  In the coming days l shall be serializing the unprecedented achievements of JM as president from 2012 to 2016," Mr  Mpondan he concluded.
