Pep Guardiola has expressed that Sergio Aguero will be given a contract extension on one condition, sky sports reports.

The Spaniard has challenged the 32-year-old to influence games like before with his goalscoring prowess, a performance he believes will attract for a new and improved deal for the player to keep his Etihad days intact.

The Argentine has his current deal expiring at the end of the season, following his move from Atletico to the Etihad in 2011 and he made his first appearance in the new season in the Citizen’s 1-0 win against Arsenal after four months of inactiveness due to an injury sustained last season.

Aguero has been linked to Inter Milan who are willing to offer £7million a season, two-year contract for the player, which would see him at the San Siro next season.

"Sergio now has to show, like every one of us, that he deserves to continue here - keep playing well, scoring goals and winning games - and after that the club and I will decide," Guardiola said.

"But if he is playing in his level we don't have any doubts that he is a player to stay until he decides because he is unique. He is important for us, our fans and everyone."

Guardiola, reported by the Calciomercato is focused on bringing a replacement in the person of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

Aguero is free to speak to foreign clubs from January being the leading all-time goalscorer for the former Champions.
