Sadio Mane wins African Player of the Year

Mane scored 34 goals and produced 12 assists in 61 matches. Salah scored 26 goals and produced 10 assists in 55 appearances.

Liverpool’s Sadio Mane was crowned as the Best African Player of 2019.

Mane edged past Mohamed Salah and Riyad Mahrez to win the award for the first time. He is only the second Senegalese to win the award after El Hadji Diouf, who was the winner in 2001 and 2002.

 

 

His impressive form for club and country last years is an evident of his honor. He helped Senegal into the final of the CAF African Cup of Nation before losing out to Algeria by a lone goal.

The 27 year was instrumental in helping Liverpool win the UEFA Champions League. He won the Premier League Golden boot award with teammate, Mohamed Salah and fellow Africa, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang.

He assist aided Roberto Firmino’s goal for the Reds to lift the FIFA Club World Cup for the first time in the history of the club.

The Reds' No.10 collected the accolade at a ceremony in Egypt on Tuesday and was also named in the FIFPro Africa Best XI for 2019, alongside Salah and Joel Matip.

Votes from head coaches/technical directors and captains of the senior national teams from CAF's member associations saw Mane selected as the continent's best footballer.
