SA hosts first global conference on clubfoot

Beginning on Monday in Cape Town, South Africa, is the first international conference on clubfoot.

About one child in 800 is born with a congenital disorder that causes one or both of their feet to be turned inward.

The majority, according to the nonprofit MiracleFeet, don't get the right care and are frequently shunned.

But using a succession of plaster casts done each week, experts in nations like Uganda, Tanzania, and Senegal have refined a non-invasive technique for moving the foot outwards.

They claim that adults and certain teenagers can now fix their feet in this way.
