Neighbours of Kpandai District have been hit by water crises for some time now.

Soireenews visited Kpandai District and some neighbouring communities like Loloto and Jirandogo in the Northern Region of Ghana where almost half of the students in their home attire were met on a six to 7 kilometres road carrying cans in search for water.

The news team interacted with them and they revealed that their water bodies are dried up and the only source of water is the tributary of the river Dakar which is about six to seven kilometres away from them in which the aged can't go moreover, some are pregnant women and weakened and for that reasons they're forced to go for water.

"Potable water is just our dream and nothing else" they added.

The district experiences long and pronounced dry season than the rainy season and their main sources of water supply are dams and rivers.

The water supply systems are generally inadequate and do not function in the dry seasons. The challenge worsens during the dry season and most of the dams soak up.

They complain how worried they go through on footing over six to seven kilometres before they can get to the riverside to fetch water only once or twice a day for their lives.

Students also get to school late due to the far nature of where they fetch their water and sometimes you can only fetch once due to the long distance.

Pregnant women living with their husbands alone also have to travel same kilometres before they get water, and most of the time fall when climbing the hill.

Mr John who is the Assemblymember of the community said, the government should at least get a machine to be sited at the riverside to pump the water for them with or without treatment so that the people will not travel that far especially students and pregnant women who end up with complications.

The Chief of the community Ubor Kajih Tayemabor said, his people are really suffering from the water issue because they have to travel long hours to search for water hence his appeal to the government and philanthropist to come to the aid of the community.
