Richmond Kofi Amponsah

The confirmation of a rejected DCE nominee, for Achiase, was characterized by manipulation through the use of brutalities and intimidations as democracy was thrown to the dogs for tyranny to reign”.

A statement issued by the Constituency Secretary of the opposition NDC, Samuel Obeng on Monday, October 4, 2021, stated that “We the members of the largest opposition party in Ghana precisely Achiase Constituency in the Eastern Region do hereby raise our displeasure in yesterday’s DCE elections.

The Achiase Constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, is calling for the immediate release of the Assemblymember for Dwirase Anamase electoral area, Daniel Yeboah, who was assaulted by armed police and arrested, put in custody.

According to the statement issued by the leadership of the NDC and other concerned citizens, "we got the shock of our lives as the DCE nominee Hon Richmond Amponsah physically prevented an appointee member from voting because he voted No previously".

After the election ended there was a commotion which led to the brutalities of one Assemblyman who was spotted against the DCE. An alleged vigilante’s member in a security uniform with a beard beat an elected member of the assembly as if he is a criminal.

After the beaten he was sent to Oda police headquarters for trying to protect the democracy our forefathers fought for us. We are disappointed how the process was conducted and telling the police to release the Honourable member because he is not a criminal”

 Background

The Assemblymember for Dwirase Anamase Electoral Area in Achiase District in Eastern Region, Daniel Yeboah was beaten mercilessly by some armed police officers during the confirmation of the District Chief Executive nominee for Achiase in the Eastern Region on Sunday, October 3, 2021.

He alleged that the deputy Regional Organizer and some armed police officers brought from an unknown area to the venue attacked and beat him mercilessly just after he stepped out to make a phone call, beat him mercilessly by slapping and kicking him on the abdomen.

He was later rescued and rushed to Akyem Oda government hospital where he was admitted, examined, treated, and discharged by Police.
