Wenchi based Radio West Africa in collaboration with the Department of National Disaster Management (NADMO), under the Wenchi Municipal Assembly, has rolled out preventive strategies to forestall disasters ahead of the rains expected this month and beyond.

Wenchi based Radio West Africa in collaboration with the Department of National Disaster Management (NADMO), under the Wenchi Municipal Assembly, has rolled out preventive strategies to forestall disasters ahead of the rains expected this month and beyond.

Interacting with our correspondent Nana Anfreh Damanata on the preparedness of NADMO towards the expected rains, the Officer in charge of the rapid response of the organization, Mr. Boakye Yiadom Adonis, said, the organization in collaboration with Radio West Africa have educated the public on the need to put in place preventive measures during the peak rainy periods.

He disclosed that the disaster management body had identified some flood areas and had written to the Wenchi Municipal Assembly, to put necessary measures in place to ensure that such areas did not suffer a crisis.

According to him the identified disaster-prone areas included, Wa -anoma, AKrobi, Kokroko, Ahenfie, Kamau-Gensoso, Bogdan, and all the Asuogya communities in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region.

On the issue of relief items for victims of disaster this year, should there be any, Mr. Adonis explained that they are in dire need.

Mr. Boakye Yiadom Adonis seized the opportunity to call on all and sundry to assist the Department of National Disaster Management in the municipality with any form of support to lessen the difficulties being faced by residents should there be any.

  It recalled that a 31  - year - old pregnant woman, Ama Mary, has died alongside her one and half year old child after their mud house collapsed on them at AKrobi in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region on Monday, July 12, 2021.
