The inspection of landfill sites by the Parliamentary Select Committees on Finance, Local Government, Works and Housing, Environment, Science and Technology &  Innovation is to avail to the Member of Parliaments the first-hand information on waste management crisis facing major local Assemblies.

The visit comes days after a similar inspection tour to the decommissioned Kpone Landfill site by Sanitation Minister, Cecelia Dapaah.

The Chairman of the selected committee, Honourable  Emmanuel A. Gyamfi said, the committee had visited five Region including Western Region, Western North, Ahafo Region, Bono Region and Ashanti Region and the Northern Region.

The purpose of the visit was to monitor the progress Zoomlion Company is making on the Recycling and compost plant in all sixteen Region.

The committee recommended last year that "the waste management challenges that we have in the country can be resolved" and therefore, commended the works of Zoomlion Ghana Company in the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly.

The project is expected to be completed in July- August.

 The Zoomlion General Manager for Tamale in the Northern Region, Mr Peter Dawuni said expressed satisfaction with the Honourable members visit following the conception of an idea of constructing a Recycling and compost plant at Tamale in the Northern Region.

''We want to see how we can minimise the dumping of waste into the landfill site so in collaboration with the Tamale Metro Assembly this place was the site for the construction of the project," he said.

Also, the projects would not only take Tamale Metropolitian but surrounding MMDAS including Savelugu, Nanton, Kumblogu.

Finally, the Ranking Member for the Local government committee for parliament, Honourable Nii Lantey Vanderpuije told that it was a privilege to be part of the inspection committee and he is very happy about the good work Tamale projects is ongoing.

He, therefore, urged the Assembly to compensate the farmer's around the landfill sites.

He also urged the Assembly, as part of the compensation package to provide compost to farmers for use.
