Angry Youth at Apam Junction have clashed with the Police over speed ramps construction.

Over 10 people have been knockdown to death at Apam Junction by overspeeding on the Kasoa - Cape Coast Highway within two weeks.

The unfavourable figures angered the youth in the area to construct speed ramps without permission from the authorities.

In the course of the work, Apam Police engaged with the angry youth on the road and failure to come to a consensus led to severe exchanges as two persons sustained gunshot wounds with three injured, whiles five have been arrested for unlawful conduct.

According to eyewitnesses, the police fired a live bullet which resulted in the injury of five-person.

In an interview with the Leader of the Concern Youths of Gomoa Ankamu, Sampson Ebo expressed disappointment with the security service for their inhumane treatment.

He described the road incident last Saturday as 'war' for the reason that the police failed to define their responsibilities towards citizens.

Sampson Ebo called on the Minister of Roads and Highway Honourable Amoako Atta and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to properly build ramps to end the unnecessary killings by some drivers plying to the road else they will not rest.

A taxi driver named Yaw Essel who sustained an injury in the leg and is receiving treatment at Apam St Luke's Hospital also narrated how he was affected.

According to him, the speed ramp was to help reduce vehicle speed and thus sound volume on residential streets yet the police actions of halting their efforts which led to protest should not have gone too far. He appealed to the government as a matter of urgency to find solutions to end the disaster at the Apam Junction.

The Apam District Police Commander, DSP Moses Osakono has asked the media to exercise patience on the matter until he decides to update them on any development as investigations are ongoing.

Injured persons are receiving treatment at Apam St.Lukes Government Hospital.
