Pay MMDCEs On Time To Prevent Corruption -Chief of Bibiani Hwenapori Urges Akuffo-Addo
The Chief of Bibiani Hwenapori in the Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Area of the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwia Municipality in the Western North Region, Nana Ebiri Kwaku III, has stressed the urgent need for the central government to review the existing law that prevents government to release fund to pay monthly salaries on time to the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the country.

According to the chief, MMDCEs who have not been paid their salaries for the past nine months since their appointment are going through terrible experiences and encountering embarrassing situations, which are fast dwindling their reputation in their respective districts and municipalities.

Information available to Soireenews.com
indicates that as a result of the inability of the government to pay salaries to MMDCEs, some have had brushes with their wives over what is referred to in Ghanaian parlance as 'chop money' (housekeeping money), while some of them have had their wards sacked from school, due to their indebtedness in respect of school fees.

However, speaking in an interview with Soireenews.com, the traditional office holder noted that the delay on the part of government to pay monthly salaries to MMDCEs can generally leads to the corruption in this country, hence the government need to review the law to safeguard the situation.

He stated that the MMDCEs are complaining to the chiefs who are their development partners in their districts and municipalities of their current economic hardship over the delay of receiving their monthly salaries for the past nine years since they were appointed by the President.

"Because government don't pay MMDCEs on time and if some of these persons leaving in the areas where these illegal small scale mining activities are going on why is it that these persons would not connive with illegal small scale miners and take monies to survive," the chief argued.

The chief was of the view that "If appointed  MMDCEs had worked for almost nine months, and government still not pay them, even you expect MMDCEs to be taken the little Internal Generated Fund (IGF) as their allowances and these decisions of the government are not good.
He rethorically asked that "Why is it that the government has been paying monthly salaries to the Chief Directors and District/Municipal Chief Coordinators on time but delaying to pay salaries to the MMDCEs.
Nana Ebiri Kwaku III was not happy about the government for neglecting the plights of the MMDCEs and channeling resources into buying of the V8 Land Cruisers for the minsters and other government appointees.

"Why government would spend whopping sums of tax players' money to buy numerous V8 Land Cruisers to some state departments or agencies which l can state they are not in the need of using that particular V8 and cannot pay MMDCEs. And some of these unfortunate MMDCEs were dying without even enjoying their monthly salaries," he noted.

"Why do we have statutory body and the same time their leadership are not be paid on time, also their salaries in arrears and the common fund not be released on time meanwhile there is a government in place. There are offices that are being guided by whole constitutional set up but the MMDCEs are not be paid for the past nine months."Why and how, the chief asked.
Nana Ebiri Kwaku III expressed these sentiments when he was speaking in an in interview with Soireenews.com and was particularly concerned about the inability of the outgoing Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwia Municipal, Mr. Alfred Amoah who has not enjoyed his salaries for the past nine years before he died currently through the road traffic accident.
He pointed that out the government was not able to pay its appointees on time because the appointees of the current administration have become too big, calling on the government to cut side of its appointees to safeguard the our economy.
He asserted that the country has very young economy meanwhile the government is interested to release money on time to pay for its flaship programmes and projects like the recent tree planting project.
He mentioned that the government was hurriedly to release money to pay for its flaship programmes because its officials were in the contract of some of the supply of the material and logistics for the implementation of these programmes.
