Over 15 people are in critical condition in a gory accident that occurred at Mankessim to Cape Coast Highway in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region.

The accident involves eight vehicles on the stretch on Wednesday Morning around 6:45 am.

According to the report gathered by Central Regional Soireenews Correspondent, Abusuapanyin Kojo Ahinful, a tanker vehicle loaded fully with oil experienced leakage on the road. The slipperiness on the road surface affected cars leaving over 15 people injured.

Speaking to Daniel Mensah, the driver of one of the vehicles with registration number GW-3256-20 from Takoradi to Mankessim, he narrated that he unknowingly crushed the stationary tanker and somersaulted before the vehicle behind him also bumped into another.

Those who were involved in the accident were mainly market women heading to Mankessim to trade.

The Mfantseman NADMO PRO told Soireenews that he received a distress call that there has been an accident causing numerous into a critical condition so he went to the scene and upon arrival, over 15 people were injured so he made an arrangement for them to be taken to the hospital for treatment.

He updated that the cause of the accident was the slippery road surface which upset cars.

The Mfantseman, Fire Commander, DCOP Mrs Winnefred Bonney also advised drivers to be extra cautious when on the highway especially as Christmas Festivities looms.

She informed that a fire thunder from Cape Coast had been reached at the time of the report to scrub the oil from the road surface to prevent any misfortune.

Meanwhile, the driver of the oil tanker has been arrested and in the custody of the Mankessim police assisting police with investigation; injured persons are also receiving treatment at Mankessim Roman Catholic Hospital.

No death has been recorded so far.
