The Youth of Kormantse are demanding the removal of a Cold Store from their land which has been abandoned for eight years.

A Cold Store worth millions of cedis was built by the Ministry of fisheries during the New Patriotic Party regime under former President of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufour to serve the people of Kormantse and its environs in the Mfantseman Municipality.

In an interview with the Elders of Kormantse, Okyeame Kofi Kakra express their grievances and then appealed to the government to revamp the Cold Store.

He lamented that the cold store will be a source of employment to the youths while fishermen and fishmonger's preserve their fish with ease.

The Assemblyman for Kormantse, Honourable Emmanuel Amankwa Bugyei explained that the Cold store has been given to a private entity to manage it.

He said, when former President Kuffour left office, the late president Atta Mills also continued the project, completed and commissioned it in 2016, then handed it over to a private entity to operate but it was due to the cost of the light bill that led to the abandonment and rotting of the Cold Store.

He is hopeful that they will return to the site soon.

Adding to this, the Unit committee chairman of the area, Opanyin Kwesi Nyame threw his support to the irate youths for protesting about the cold store.
