Fighting in Sudan's Darfur has resumed, according to reports.

According to reports, fighting has resumed in the Sudanese city of El Geneina, where at least 200 people were killed over the weekend.

Following a brief pause in the battle on Tuesday, heavy gunshots can now be heard once more.

For decades, tensions have been high between Arab nomads and members of the Massalit community for land.

The Janjaweed militia launched an attack on El Geneina on Sunday, backed by the Rapid Support Force, a paramilitary outfit.

Many thousands of people have abandoned their homes in the city since the Darfur war nearly two decades ago.
