NPP Govt & NADMO Officials  Refused To Rescue Aklika Flood Victims For Voting For Okobeng's Wife And NDC In 2020
Residents of Aklika, a farming community at the bank of the Bonsa River in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region who were affected by the floods, following the torrential rainfalls have lamented over their neglect by various appointees of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in municipality.
According to the affected residents, their distress calls being made to the government appointees of in the municipality to come to their rescue have been completely ignored.
They bemoaned that they were told that the majority of the residents in Aklika, which is an Ewe dominated area had voted massively for and National Democratic Congress (NDC) and  the Independent Parliamentary Candidate for Tarkwa Nsuaem, Mrs. Joy Joycelyn Andoh who is the wife of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Okobeng Mining Company Limited, Nana Okobeng Amponsah hence, they would not be assisted.
"As of today as we are speaking to you, none of the government appointees have responded to our calls and we are currently cut off from food and clean water. If because of our support we tendered to Mrs. Joy Joycelyn Andoh by voting for her massively in the 2020 general elections, then we are pleading with the NPP government officials to forgive us and come to our rescue," the flood victims who spoke on the condition of anonymity cried out.
"Our lives in danger now," the floods affected residents pleaded.
It has emerged that the heavy rainfall from Monday to Friday, June 23, 2023, has caused River Bonsa to overflow its banks, leaving lots of people homeless at Aklika in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.
Some houses have collapsed, while other households in the scattered community have been surrounded by the flood, making it difficult for occupants to move out.
The Chief of Aklika, Nana Godson in an interview with GhanaWeb said “The flood which started from Tuesday has carried away all the canoes they have on the Bonsa river, and they are unable to cross the river to the other side.
“The situation is so serious that people have run out of food. Stores in this community have run out of stock so we don’t get anything to buy here”, he added.
A resident, Isaiah Mintah who is a father of eight said,” I had to swim in the flood this morning to one woman we have been buying from if I could get some gari to buy, but when I got there, I didn’t get anything. I only had salt, which I bought so that we could use it to cook fewer maize I harvested from my farm for my family.”
He added that “All we need now is a canoe to help us cross the river. We are appealing to the authorities to help get a canoe, else we will die of hunger.”
However, several attempts made by this reporter to get the Municipal Chief  Executive (MCE) of the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly, Mr. Benjamin Kessie to respond to the allegations leveled against the government appointees of neglect of the flood victims at Aklika proved unsuccessful.
