The authorities in Nigeria have found a stash of crystal methamphetamine that was hidden inside fish heads that were being shipped to Dubai in crates.

The haul was discovered on Friday inside a shipment weighing 11.9kg that was intended for export at Lagos' Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

The seizure was reported on Sunday by the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The haul, according to the FBI, consisted of 442 pieces that were each wrapped in foil paper and hidden under the heads of hundreds of smoked catfish. Seven boxes were used to transport them.

According to a statement from NDLEA, the freight agent who delivered the crates to the airport was detained.
