According to the National Council for Civil Defense of Sudan, since May, heavy rains and flooding have killed at least 50 people and injured scores more.

More than 7,000 dwellings have also been damaged, as seen in images released by the Sudanese official media, many of which are either underwater or have collapsed.

Many of those impacted have requested emergency shelter from the authorities, claiming they have been forced to sleep outside.

Brigadier-General Abdul-Jalil Abdul-Rahman, a spokesman for the National Council for Civil Defense, told state television that some of the deceased drowned in flooding while others passed away in their homes.

This year, East Africa has endured very harsh weather, including flooding, protracted dry periods, and severe droughts.
