A newly installed chief known as Teacher Oluu and 22 others have been arrested by the Central East Regional Police for engaging in a gun battle at Yamoah Nkwanta in the Awutu Senya West District.

The police stormed the enstoolment ceremony and retrieved weapons from some people who were later arrested.

The  Police Commander DCOP Okyere Boapeah in an interview with Media explained that the command had earlier advised that the installation ceremony  be put on hold citing security reasons but the kingmakers acted on the contrary.

During the ceremony, another faction rose to kick against the event, resulting in a gun battle between the two sides.

For several hours residents of Yamoah Nkwanta were locked up in their homes as the two factions battled and displayed their shooting prowess. It took the intervention of personnel from the regional command to bring the situation under control.

A pump-action gun, foreign pistol, metal handcuff, cartridges and clubs were retrieved from the arrested persons.

DCOP Boapeah observed that land guard and chieftaincy issues are the leading security issues within the region.

He advised the elders to be circumspect in their choice of a ruler.
