Motorbikes numbering about three hundred and forty-four (344) have been impounded in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale.

The operation was jointly carried out by the Regional Police Command and personnel from the Driving and Vehicle Licence Authority (DVLA) in the Tamale Metropolis on Monday, October 12, 2021.

Addressing Journalists on the sideline of the operations, COP Timothy Yoosa Bonga said the police conducted the operation to save riders lives and further curb criminal activities in the region.

He said most of the arm-robbery cases and other anti-social vices is usually been carried out with motorbikes.

According to him, out of the 344 arrested persons, 285 motorbikes weren't registered with 59 riders not wearing a crash helmet at the time of the arrest.

COP Yoosa Bonga however indicated that those arrested will not be arranged before the law court as the law requires but the culprits will be compelled to get their motorbikes registered accordingly.
