Namibia alarmed as over 1,000 recruits unfit for army

In an attempt to combat unemployment in the nation, President Hage Geingob announced last week that a new round of 1,500 soldiers will be recruited.

Namibia alarmed as over 1,000 recruits unfit for army

Frans Kapofi, Namibia's defense minister, has voiced worry about the large number of recruits who were deemed too ill to serve in the army.

According to Mr. Kapofi, 1,300 candidates from the October 2022 intake have withdrawn from training due to physical incapacity and associated medical conditions.

The pattern, according to the minister, is "very alarming."

"I want to encourage young people to take care of their health," Mr. Kapofi said. "This disqualification of the young recruits due to physical unfitness, pregnancies, health problems, and other related issues are a serious concern."
