Police have confirmed that a poll worker who went missing in Kenya last week just after voting day has been found dead.

Near Mount Kilimanjaro, on Kenya's southern border, around 200 kilometers (124 miles) from his base in Nairobi, Daniel Mbolu Musyoka's body was discovered.

Although this election cycle has been among the least violent in Kenyan history, election officials' safety has come under scrutiny since Musyoka went missing last Wednesday.

He left a vote-counting location in Nairobi's east to respond to a call, and he was never seen alive again. The circumstances surrounding his death and disappearance are being looked into by police.

Wafula Chebukati, the chairman of the election commission, claimed that he had experienced intimidation and harassment as well as other staff members being arbitrarily detained and profiled.

Amid fights at the national tallying center, he pronounced William Ruto the winner of the presidential election on Monday.

According to Mr. Chebukati, "two commissioners and the chief executive were hurt in the commotion."

The Azimio La Umoja alliance, led by former prime minister Raila Odinga, has contested the results, and four additional commissioners disavowed them because the process was "opaque."
