Modi and Sunak meet in Bali

The office of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted a picture of the two of them speaking.

The first encounter between Modi and Sunak, the first Prime Minister of Indian ancestry in the UK, was eagerly awaited in India, although we do not yet know the specifics of their talk.

The daughter of Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy, Akshata Murty, is also the wife of the 42-year-old.

Sunak and Modi "agreed on the necessity of early conclusion of a comprehensive and balanced [free trade deal]," according to a tweet that was posted after they spoke on the phone shortly after Sunak assumed office.

According to Reuters, the two nations are now working to finalize a trade deal by the end of March that aims to double bilateral trade by 2030.
