Mesut Ozil has promised to return Gunnersaurus to work if Arsenal officially gives the mascot his job back.

The Gunners sacked their beloved mascot after the signing of Thomas Partey on deadline day for a reported £45million and the Athletic reported that after 26 years in the big green suit, Jerry Quy was told his services would no longer be required, part of Covid-19 cost-cutting that has also led to 55 other redundancies.

"Our aim has been to protect the jobs and base salaries of our people for as long as we possibly can. Unfortunately, we have now come to the point where we are proposing 55 redundancies," the club said in a statement released on 5 August,” the statement said.

It was later reported that the mascot will return when fans are allowed back into the stadium, a step taking by the club to ensure that it keeps running until the coronavirus is vanquished for fans to return.

Meanwhile, out of favour Arsenal player, Mesut Ozil tweeted and assured that as long as he will be an Arsenal player, he is willing to pay the salary of Jerry Quy who has been in the job for 27 years to continue.

“I was so sad that Jerry Quy aka our famous & loyal mascot @Gunnersaurus and integral part of our club was being made redundant after 27 years. As such, I’m offering to reimburse @Arsenal with the full salary of our big green guy as long as I will be an Arsenal player, .. so Jerry can continue his job that he loves so much.”
