The Departments of Social Welfare in collaboration with stakeholders have appealed to the media to do follow up on stories sent to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit.

Departments of Social Welfare, Gender Desk, Police, G.E.S, Ghana Health Service, Youth Authority and other Stakeholders working towards the wellbeing of the youth have unanimously condemned Nananom, Politicians, Religious Leaders and other prominent people within communities who interfere in the work of DOVVSU by intervening for unscrupulous persons arrested for defilement, early marriage and other domestic and gender-based offences.

Rev. Mrs Arku Hornam Kervi, Executive Director of Purim African Youth Development Platform (PAYDP), an NGO supporting adolescents in their sexual reproductive health needs, speaking with the media in Techiman during a review meeting with the Stakeholders in Bono East region called on the press to follow cases reported at DOVVSU and expose people who intercede for offenders in order to ensure that appropriate punishments are meted out.

Rev. Mrs Arku Hornam Kervi added that most teenagers who have fallen victims to early pregnancies or marriages, school dropouts, drug abuse or alcoholism and other social vices are a result of irresponsible parenting therefore parents and guardians should live up to their expectations.

Finally, some parents and opinion leaders from communities who have benefited from PAYDP’s program shared their experiences.
