The family of a deceased who lost her life from covid-19 at the Sunyani Regional Hospital in Bono Region of Ghana has alleged that they were made to assist the Covid-19 burial team at the cemetery without protection.

According to the brother of the deceased Collins Diawuo, the burial team had challenges conveying the mortal remains of their relative to the grave therefore called on the bereaved family to assist them without providing them with protective gears.

He explained that the burial team had only five members present at the cemetery and from his point of view, they were lacking the expertise to put the casket into the grave, therefore, they had to rely on the support of the deceased family.

He further expressed worry that there has been no contact tracing after the whole process till now which has been a major concern to them as their relative according to the doctors tested positive for covid-19, a claim that has been creating fear among them.

Narrating what took them to the Bono Regional Hospital and their ordeal at the facility, Mr. Diawuo said her sister showed symptoms of malaria on Wednesday, February 3.

He said they rushed her to some health facilities and later to the Regional Hospital for treatment, but was attended having got there at about 7:00 am.

According to him, when the family got back to the facility to find out how their relative was faring, she informed them that the doctors had told her she had tested positive for Covid-19.

“We didn’t expect the doctors to do that, why they should inform a sick person about her status of being positive of the deadly virus”, Mr. Diawuo added.

According to him, the family still does not accept that their relative died of Covid-19 unless they see the test results.

What deepened their suspicion their relative did not die of the deadly virus, according to Mr. Diawuo, was what happened at the burial of the deceased.

Mr. Diawuo made the claims on Ark FM monitored by SN24 News.
