It has become apparent that John Dumelo may lose the Member of Parliament seat for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency to Lydia Seyram Alhassan.

Officially, the Electoral Commission is yet to declare the result, but the provisional results show that he has polled 37,778 votes to Lydia Seyram Alhassan's 39,85.

This battle was not between the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party; it was a battle between the power of astute politicians and the entire Creative Arts Industry.

In theory, the battle between the creative arts industry and Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has now been lost by a mere 2,000 votes.

How did we get here?

On Friday, November 27, 2020, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey said actors and entertainers have no place in Parliament business while campaigning for NPP PC, Lydia Alhassan at Ayawaso West Wuogon.

“Parliament is for serious minded people and not people who have done some movies and think they are popular. It is a serious place; I will tell him; the laws of the country are enacted in parliament."

"If our President can continue his job very well, he needs Lydia Alhassan in Parliament to do the job so that all you need as a constituency will be easily given to you,” she said.

This statement sparked an outrage amidst entertainers, with the exception of some NPP faithfuls like Kalybos, Prince David Osei, Bismark the Joke, Cwesi Oteng and actress Bibi bright, who put their party affiliations over their respective sense of creative belongings.

These artistes would rather ally themselves with politicians that line their pockets with cash, no matter the blatant disregard the politicians show for them - they don't care about the insults, they just want the money no matter the cost.

In an attempt to counter the words of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, entertainers all rallied together to push their actor colleague, John Dumelo, over the finish line.

This rally was a little too late, as results have shown.

Kalybos, the leading figure in the opposition coalition against John Dumelo rightly pointed out that the entertainers that started to support John Dumelo after the words of Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey did not see it fit to support him before.

He labelled them hypocrites who only wanted to show off at the last minute, instead of actually supporting John Dumelo's cause.

According to Kalybos, he is still good friends with John Dumelo and their political differences does not make them enemies. He explained that since the elections are based on democracy, there's bound to be differences in opinions and it just so turns out that he and John Dumelo have made different choices.

"Now we are seeing people posting John, writing essays with BIG grammar as if they attended Montessori exhibiting their Hypocrisy whiles we the ‘Sytocians’ did what we believe in. Hmm asem ooo, just be real to yourself and others."

"Well I am glad I was about to divulge the pretenders who wouldn’t do anything but will say everything. God is watching your buttocks. To @johndumelo1 I wish you all the best in this election and always know #idey4u but you’re in the other side. God Bless Ghana “God Bless us all”  he wrote.

His words have been proved right by John Dumelo's loss.

Two days before the election, Selly Galley called on all entertainers to rally behind John Dumelo in a feeble attempt to make Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey eat back her words.

“I am completely non-partisan but John! I pray you win this seat and prove to the Minister of foreign affairs, Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey and alike thinkers that indeed, creative arts is an industry pregnant with ‘serious’ minds of great thoughts and doers of great deeds…

“Your victory shall serve as a clarion call to all echelons of powers, low or/and high that indeed creative arts and its players have truly arrived and ready to step into the big shoes of power rather than been the perennial faces of endorsement…#Idey4u @johndumelo1 #WeAreSeriousMindedPeople #JohnDumelo4AyawasoWestWuogon Now this is the real elections!” She had said.

The major focus of this call was to prove that entertainers are serious-minded people.

Now just John has lost, the words have been proved right; the singular hope of the creative industry establishing a grip on the political scene has been wiped out.

Maybe the industry is just filled with jokers after all.
