Install active devices in your homes and workplaces to avoid emergency fire outbreaks - Fire Officer Advises House Owners

The Second in Command (2IC) of the Bechem Fire Service under the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) ADO1 Clifford Ashie, has called for the installation of passive and active devices in various homes and institutions to help in the detection of potential emergency fire outbreaks and putting off these fires when the need arises even before the arrival of fire Service personnel. 

Speaking in an Interview on High Radio, monitored by Soireenews.com, the fire officer noted that fire outbreaks are caused by a lot of factors citing electricity as a major agent of fire outbreaks.

He indicated that some institutions and homes have naked wires all over their meters which according to him can easily catch fire. He added that fire from gas cylinders,  mishandling of matches, and other poor handling of naked flames contribute a lot to fire outbreaks in Ghana.

He stressed that the important measures to be considered to prevent these emergency fire outbreaks are to be cautious while we install passive and active devices which are smoke detectors and fire extinguishers in our homes to enhance the early detection and putting off of fire outbreaks. 

ADO1 Clifford Ashie added that the Ghana National Fire Service of Bechem is embarking on Safety Week which is geared towards the sensitization, education, and monitoring of some selected houses, private and public institutions to monitor and create awareness of devices, equipment, and activities that may cause fire outbreaks and offer the necessary advice to prevent any potential fires.

He added that his outfit also recommends institutions who have fully followed the needed fire safety measures to other institutions to be able to learn from them.

He said the safety week commenced on Monday, February 6, and will come to an end on Friday, February 10, 2023, disclosing that a lot of communities and institutions have been so far visited where the needed advice and actions have been taken against those flouting fire safety guidelines to prevent fire outbreaks. 

He advised the general public to ensure the protection of lives and properties against fire outbreaks by following the fire safety guidelines.

He mentioned  that the core mandate of the Ghana National Fire Service is to prevent the occurrence of Fire outbreaks hence the need for this sensitization and awareness creation week established. 

He advised landlords and potential landlords to seek advice from the GNFS for the installation of burglar-proof which is aimed at preventing robbers who may end up trapping you inside the rooms in case of an emergency fire outbreak.
