I'll work harder the next time, and I'm not upset about not obtaining a TGMA nomination - Safo Newman

Safo Newman, a budding musician, made a big splash in the music industry late last year with his debut track, Akokoa.

I'll work harder the next time, and I'm not upset about not obtaining a TGMA nomination - Safo Newman

He gained a large number of streams on multiple platforms and became an immediate social media phenomenon.

This year's Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) nomination list was something he had hoped would happen.

Both his fans and music enthusiasts thought the song had progressed and should be acknowledged. When the TGMA nomination list was revealed, though, expectations were dashed.

Despite endorsements from heavyweights in the industry like rapper Sarkodie, Akokoa was not even able to gain a slot in the Unsung category.

Safo Newman responded to the rejection in a conversation last Friday, May 17, that he was unfazed despite his initial feelings of sadness.

Safo Newman emphasized that he was dedicated to making meaningful music that connects with listeners despite the setback and that he shouldn't be deterred by "just one snub."

Although he was grateful for the exposure, he claimed that it was not his main reason for making music. "An insider informed me that my music did not meet the requirements for selection when I submitted my submission for a TGMA.

Yes, I did anticipate being dismissed. Nonetheless, I was not surprised by it. Certain songs are so distinctive that they don't belong in award programs. The world needs such songs so I am not bothered at all by the snub at all. In fact, it is a motivation for me to work harder.”

"I'll be creating quality music without any emphasis. Jah is to be thanked if it is recognized; nevertheless, it is not my primary goal. We are just working hard. I don't perform music for awards. "I want to perform songs that have an enduring influence on everyone," he said.
