Ghanaians who oppose the National Cathedral are like Sanballat and Tobias, according to Akufo Addo

President Akufo-Addo compared critics of the National Cathedral to Sanballat and Tobias, who attacked the Jerusalem wall in Nehemiah.

He refuses to budge despite the fact that many people think the project is a foolish priority.

On December 18, 2022, he made this statement at the Ga Presbytery's centennial celebration in Black Star Square in Accra.

In the words of Akufo-Addo, "There are some who do not share my views on the construction of the National Cathedral, just like Sanballat and Tobias in the days of Nehemiah.

I respect their right to differ, but I am confident (of) my decision, by the vast numbers of enthusiastic supporters of this project whose spiritual dimension is limitless."

Akufo-Addo and his administration are committed to building the cathedral even though Ghana is experiencing a horrible and dreadful economic crisis and is looking to the IMF for assistance.

It "will serve not just as the country's collective appreciation to the Almighty for the favors He has showered on our nation, sparing us the ravages of civil war that have plagued the histories of almost all our neighbors and the outbreak of deadly mass epidemics," he insisted.

But also as a focal point for the entire Ghanaian Christian community, which makes up about 70% of the population.

On Tuesday, December 20, the NDC minority in parliament vetoed GHC80 million for the development in the 2023 budget, dealing a significant setback to the National Cathedral project.
