The Speaker of Parliament, Right Honourable Alban Bagbin has urged Members of Parliament to acquaint themselves with other legislatures' practices to best serve the interest of Ghana's Parliament and their constituents.

He made this comment during the inauguration of a 9-member management committee of the Parliament Friendship Associations at an event held in Parliament.

The Parliamentary Friendship Association is a cross-party association of legislators established to promote continued dialogue with Members of other Legislators. These associations, once established, enter into bilateral or multilateral relations with other counterparts in other legislatures.

Addressing the gathering, Speaker of Parliament noted that, friendships with other Legislatures of the world will also help deepen members debate on the floor of Parliament.

However, COVID-19 indeed has taught us that global integration is similar to global development as it has heightened our helplessness and an attempt to handle a burden of challenges as individual countries.

“The world in our time has become a global village due to the great strides in science and technology. The emerging challenges this world turns to be trans-generational and trans-territorial, he stated

“Because of this, no nation on earth can claim exclusive know-how given emerging issues around the world hence these issues, therefore, require a country’s strengthening and bond together, build stronger networks, he added

He finally elaborated on the fact that it is important to mention that parliamentary friendship association offer a good platform for acquiring best practices however, such practices can be useful encounters activities including those in at peace security and strengthening democracy and human rights, economic development and social conditions of their respective countries.

Chairman of the committee, Alexander Afenyo Markin on behalf of members expressed their readiness to work in fulfilment of their mandate.

“Entertain no doubt then we will be more than able to discharge all activities hence, I call in all others and in the management committee to make themselves available o enable us to deliver for our colleagues o know that indeed the choice of us in the committee s not misled”, he empathized.
