Ghana has put the search for the crew of the sunken boat on hold.

The search for the missing crew of a fishing vessel that sank off Ghana's western coast has been halted by the authorities.

According to a fisheries officer, the vessel capsized due to stormy weather conditions and difficulty hauling in a net full of fish.

Fifteen people were rescued alive, but eight more remain unaccounted for. The body of the captain, one of six Chinese nationals on board, was also recovered by rescuers.

Authorities say they're still watching to see whether the bodies of the missing people wash up on the beach.

They added there were more than 20 people on board the fishing trawler Comforter II, including Ghanaians and Chinese.

Some of the crew members made it to a nearby vessel by swimming. Those who were hurt were sent to a hospital for treatment.
