For depicting police in a negative light, comedian Cute Abiola is being prosecuted

Abdulgafar Abiola, also known as Cute Abiola, a comedian and former naval officer, has come under fire from the Nigerian police force for what they have called a "derogatory portrayal" of the uniform in his comedic routines.

Olumuyiwa Adejob, the two most recent skits, which were released on the Skit Maker's social media accounts on July 20 and 24, 2023, painted a poor image of the force, according to a statement from the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Police Force

According to the police spokeswoman, "the in issue skits depict the police uniform in a highly disrespectful and disparaging manner, which is a clear violation of Section 251 of the Criminal Code and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law.

Cute Abiola's premeditated actions will be looked into, and they may result in prosecution, as the NPF had already advised skit creators and filmmakers not to desecrate its uniform or accoutrements.

Adejobi urged "members of the public, including media personalities, to exercise their freedom of expression responsibly and avoid engaging in actions that could erode public trust in our revered law enforcement institutions."

He went on to say that the Force is committed to upholding the honor of the uniform and will use every legal tool at its disposal to hold those responsible who try to discredit the uniform or the institution it represents.

Remember when Cute Abiola departed the Nigerian Navy in November of last year to focus on comedy?

He claimed that his stint in the Navy had helped him develop the discipline he needed to thrive in life at the time.
