While it is always a joy to watch spoken word artists perform on stage with ease, renowned poet Rhyme Sonny has stated that poetry is a very tough art form.

Poetry is quite challenging — Rhyme Sonny

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, Rhyme Sonny stated: "It takes a lot of work, just like any other type of art. If you are writing on the "World Bank at 70," for example, you will need a lot of information about how long they have been in Ghana. This will involve a lot of reading, a lot of consideration, and a lot of research.

Because I can't write everything in my thoughts, there have been instances when I've asked a few people to comment on poetry I've worked on. It takes a few days to create a poem, so it actually entails a lot," the speaker said.

Rhyme Sonny, a poet with 12 years of experience, revealed that he began charging for his performances in 2011 and has continued to do so ever since.

When asked what preparations he made, for example, when he received an invitation to a party, he replied, "First of all, you need to know who your audience is. Once you know your audience, you ask yourself, what will be acceptable for them? Which work would you then be delivering to them, you wonder?

I have performed with dancers, a chorus, magicians, etc., so there will be rehearsals in such situations, which I will do with individuals I will be performing with.

Each performance involves a lot of work, depending on who is involved. The budget then enters the picture, which likewise is dependent on each performance. So, as I indicated earlier, it requires a lot of work and is by no means simple," he remarked.

Rhyme Sonny claimed that the poetry market was currently thriving and profitable, and that the Poetry Association of Ghana had contributed to the sector's expansion.

Presidents J.A. Kufuor, John Evans Atta-Mills, John Mahama, and Akufo-Addo, as well as the World Bank Climate Change, MTN @ 50, GCB @ 70, and the National Security Ministry Launch, among others, have all seen performances by the award-winning Rhyme Sonny.
