---Commuters Appeal to President Mahama To Call Contractor to Order

Nag Fairmount Company Limited, the construction firm executing the 30-kilometer Kasoa-Winneba road expansion, has faced criticism for neglecting deep potholes that have turned sections of the Buduburam stretch into flowing streams, severely damaging vehicles and causing massive traffic gridlocks.

The frustrated commuters who ply the Kasoa-Winneba Road state that recent rains have turned potholes into rushing streams because of negligence on the part of Nuhu Abdul-Ganiyu, the contractor and owner of NAG Fairmount Company Limited.

Speaking in an interview with African TODAY NEWS on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, during a visit to the area, commuters appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to urgently intervene and call the contractor of Nag Fairmount Company Limited to order.

According to them the contractor lacks a human face in the way he is executing the ongoing construction work.

They complained bitterly about how the contractor has created deep, dangerous potholes on the Budumburam stretch, which serves as an only access route.

"Whenever there is a heavy downpour, vehicles become stuck in these death traps," they stated, citing the circumstances of Wednesday morning, June 24, 2026, when many vehicles got struck in dangerous potholes on the Budumburam stretch

The drivers stated that they frequently damage their vehicle tires and spare parts when they fall into these deep potholes, as the road stretch turns into a stream.

They lamented that traveling on the Kasoa-Winneba Highway during the ongoing dualisation project by Nag Fairmount Company Limited has become unbearable due to severe traffic delays and construction challenges. 

"While we acknowledge the government's broader infrastructure goals, we urgently appeal to your office to compel the contractor to expedite the roadworks and ease the daily gridlock

"President John Dramani Mahama, we are appealing to you to come and save us," they pleaded.

They stressed that the contractor must be instructed to fill the dangerous potholes on this stretch, or else be advised to create an alternative route for cars and commuters to pass.

Residents and commuters also complained about the heavy dust on the road. 

They were annoyed that the contractor only waters the areas where his workers are actively working on the Kasoa-Winneba Road, which they noted is not the best approach.

'We aren't saying the ongoing construction on the Kasoa-Winneba Road isn't good, but we are saying the contractor should manage the dust and deep potholes on the access roads created for drivers and commuters,' they stressed."

The Kasoa-Winneba Highway and its ongoing construction have recently seen similar frustrations regarding road blockages, with commuters actively demanding urgent repairs.

Motorists plying the Kasoa–Winneba Highway have been left stranded in heavy traffic for more than 10 hours after two vehicles overturned at Akotsi Junction.

According to drivers, the incident has caused a major obstruction on the road, leading to severe congestion and delays for commuters and transport operators.

The drivers expressed concern over the worsening condition of the road, especially during the rainy season, describing the situation as frustrating and dangerous. 

They further complained about the worsening traffic situation from the West Hills Mall area to the Mallam Junction in the Weija-Gbawe Municipality of Accra. According to them, drivers now spend almost three hours traveling from the West Hills Mall area to Mallam Junction, noting that this journey initially took only ten minutes.

They highlighted that there are deep, dangerous potholes on the road at Mallam Junction, which prevent vehicles from moving smoothly. 

They pointed out that officials from the Ghana Highway Authority, including Members of Parliament (MPs) and government appointees who regularly ply that stretch, are well aware of the situation causing the gridlock. 

Despite this, residents feel these officials have turned a blind eye to the alarming conditions, seemingly waiting for a disaster to occur before taking action.

"We are saying that the residents living in the entire area connected from the West Hills Mall area to the Mallam Junction are suffering to use this road," they raised the alarm. 

"A journey that should take us ten minutes is now taking us four hours for a round trip from West Hills Mall to Mallam Junction," they further clarified

They are calling on the relevant authorities to urgently intervene and make the road more motorable to prevent similar incidents.

The stretches of the Kasoa-Winneba-Cape Coast road at Budumburam and Mallam Junction currently pose severe hazards to road users.

Deep potholes, halted construction, and abrupt lane blockages have caused devastating vehicle damage and trapped thousands of commuters in crippling gridlocks that take ten hours to navigate.

 Trips that previously took minutes now require several hours, frustrating commercial drivers and everyday commuters.
