Ime Udoka, a former Nigerian basketball international, has been removed as the head coach of the Boston Celtics for the 2022–23 season after developing a romantic interest in a female staff member.

For "violations of team policies," Udoka, who earlier this year guided the Celtics to the NBA Finals in his first season as head coach, was suspended.

The 45-year-future old's beyond 2022–2023 will "be decided at a later stage," the organization added.

Joe Mazzulla, an assistant coach, will be given the temporary coaching position.
