Raheem Sterling’s only goal inspired Manchester City in a 1-0 win over Arsenal at the Etihad.

The Citizens are on seven points after four games with a game in hand.

Sergio Aguero returned to start for Manchester City against Arsenal but Aymeric Laporte was missing from the matchday squad.

Aguero made his first appearance since suffering a knee injury against Burnley in June, while Nathan Ake lined up alongside Ruben Dias in defence.

Arsenal were able to include left-back Kieran Tierney after his period of self-isolation, while Rob Holding, Granit Xhaka and Nicolas Pepe replaced David Luiz, Mohamed Elneny and Eddie Nketiah.

New signing Thomas Partey was among the substitutes.

It was a strong start by the home side with Sergio Aguero in the thick of the action in the early stages.

Sterling gave the home side the lead in the 23-minute.

Mahrez's initiated a move and opened a pass to take out Ceballos, which released Aguero.

The Argentine slid the ball through for Foden, he caught inside Bellerin before forcing a save from Leno. The German goalkeeper pushed the ball out to the penalty spot where Sterling swept it home.

Guardiola’s side continued dominating the game but the Gunners struggled to hold onto the ball.

Arsenal injected some pace into their play as Saka and Aubameyang exchanged passes to beat the offside trap five minutes to end the first half and Ederson was quick to divert the ball away from goal.

Thomas Partey made his debut six minutes to full time when the Gunners were on top of their game yet found it hard to find the net.

A chance fell for Sterling in the 87-minute but the player failed to find his connect.

The England international was read by Luiz after leaving Bellerin on his backside inside the box with a nice turn inside from the left. He tried checking in but the ball was salvaged by the Brazilian leaving it for Partey to clear.

The game ended in favour of City who are unbeaten in their last 10 Premier League encounters with Arsenal since 2015.
