Chief and Residents of Kotokrom Threaten to Block their Dusty Road if the Contractor does not Return to the Site.

The chiefs and residents of Kotokrom in the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono Region have threatened to block the abandoned ongoing Sunyani-Kotokrom road in the Sunyani -Techiman highway if the government fails to force the contractor to resume work.

The reconstruction of the 17-kilometre road from Sunyani to Chiraa was expected to be completed in 2020 but the road has since not seen any improvement as it remains dusty during the dry season and muddy during the rainy season posing several challenges to commuters and residents who live along the stretch.

The residents along this main road have demonstrated severally but their cries have gone unheard as the road keeps deteriorating with countless potholes while the contractor left the road to riot.

The Chief of Kotokrom, Nana Amoah Asare in his media engagement explained that the deplorable state of the road is affecting the development of his community in terms of health, economic and social life.

According to the chiefs, the health of his residents is badly affected due to the frequent inhaling of dust from the abandoned road.

He further stated that the traditional council have resolved that if the contractor refuses to come back to the site, they would allow the youth to block the road with immediate effect.

Nana Kwadwo Asare, the Krontihene of the area added that most of the people who rent rooms at Kotokrom are moving to other towns due to the bad road affecting the development of the community.

He said, if the road remains the same by the end of the year, they would block any political activity in the area and boycott the 2024 general elections.

On her part the Bono Regional Minister, Honourable Justina Owusu-Banahene also called on the National Security Ministry to intervene since that stretch of road is a security road since it is where the Bono Regional military barracks is located hence the road should not be left abandoned.

The Regional Minister further appealed to the road users to be diligent to avoid accidents but promised that government will do all that it can to solve the situation to help complete the road before time.
