Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech celebrate goal

Chelsea are heading for their fourth FA Cup final in the last five seasons after a 1-0 win against Manchester City at Wembley in the quarter-finals of the competition.

It was the sixth attempt for Thomas Tuchel as he recorded his first win against Pep Guardiola, ending the quadruple dreams of the Spaniard, kind courtesy Hakim Ziyech’s 55-minute strike.

Pep Guardiola started Gabriel Jesus upfront as part of eight changes to the side that beat Borussia Dortmund in midweek retaining Kevin de Bruyne, Ruben Dias and Rodri.

Thiago Silva returned from suspension to play as part of a back three with Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger. Kepa Arrizabalaga comes in for Edouard Mendy while Hakim Ziyech, Mason Mount and Timo Werner are selected in the front three with Kai Havertz on the bench.

Chelsea were promising from the start controlling possession and finding spaces to hit Manchester City. Hakim Ziyech gave Chelsea the early lead after a quick break. Chilwell launched the ball over the top for Werner to race clear of City's high line. The cross was fired first time into the net by Hakim Ziyech but the flag was correctly raised for offside.

City responded four minutes later when Gabriel Jesus spun away from Cesar Azpilicueta down the right. He received the return pass from De Bruyne to test Kepa who made a comfortable save.

Ziyech scored 10-minutes in the second half. Mount punched a through pass for Timo Werner to chase and Zack Steffen got caught in two minds as he wandered from his goal but didn’t reach the ball. Werner’s cross was laid on a plate for Ziyech to tuck home.

Four minutes later, Dias made a crucial block to deny Werner from doubling the Blues advantage.

City kept knocking at the door but Chelsea’s defence was very organized and determined to go through.

The game ended 1-0 in favour of last year’s finalist who will be waiting for their opponents when Leicester and Southampton meet on Sunday.
